Key facts for Singapore fathers
- •From 1 April 2025, all 4 weeks of Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL) are mandatory for eligible working fathers of Singapore Citizen children.
- •A new 10-week Shared Parental Leave scheme was introduced from 1 April 2025, allowing parents to share leave flexibly in the child's first year.
- •To qualify for GPPL, the child must be a Singapore Citizen (or become one within 12 months of birth), and the father must be lawfully married to the child's mother.
- •GPPL is government-funded: employers claim reimbursement from the government, so there is no cost to the employer for the leave.
- •The Made For Families portal (madeforfamilies.gov.sg) is the central hub for all Singapore family support schemes, benefits, and resources.
